Research FacilitiesTransgenics and Embryonic Stem Cell Laboratory
The Facility offers a range of services and expertise for the generation and study of transgenic mice, including pronuclear injection of DNA and injection of embryonic stem (ES) cells into blastocysts.
The transgenic laboratory is staffed by a number of very experienced personnel who offer a range of professional science services and expertise in the creation, maintenance and study of transgenic mice. Services offered include a complete targeting service, pronuclear injection of DNA, injection of embryonic stem (ES) cells into blastocysts using various strains of ES cells, aggregation and laser assisted IVF. There are plans to offer ICSI in the near future.
The laboratory offers expertise in maintaining transgenic mouse lines, maintaining ES cell lines, karyotyping, trouble shooting, problem solving, a sperm and embryo freezing archiving service, rederivation, restitution and mouse importation services. From 2009 facilities include a suite of inverted injection microscopes and a dedicated cryopreservation suite housed in a state of the art, purpose built ‘clean’ building. The laboratory also maintains a dedicated clean facility housing biological hoods for embryonic stem cell culture and manipulation.
Staff undertake experimental work, help and advise CSC research teams with experimental design and train staff and students in the relevant techniques associated with transgenic technologies. All services offered are available to external institutions.
